My name is Yasmine Hirbawi & I’m a Palestinian-Nicaraguan American. I’m a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant currently working in Atlanta, GA. I’m a first-generation American. I was born & raised in Cleveland, OH. I graduated high-school from Westlake High School. I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Biology from The Ohio State University & received my Master’s of Anesthesia from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Growing up, I always wanted to become a doctor, but after discovering the anesthesia program, I realized there are many ways to save lives & help others without having to obtain a doctorate degree. I feel that this profession allows me to save lives, improve the quality of people’s lives, all while allowing me to have a regular schedule to make time for family & friends. My mother has been my inspiration to enter the medical field & continues to be my inspiration each & every day. She obtained a bachelor’s degree and her PhD all while raising three children. She always pushed me to be the best & always supported me to do anything I set my mind to. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Aside from doing anesthesia, some of my hobbies include working out (especially playing soccer & volleyball), going to concerts & comedy shows, exploring & trying new things, and traveling. I’m a very outgoing person & I love meeting new people! I’m extremely proud to be an Arab because Arab people are some of the most generous, loving, & kind people I’ve ever met. We are always willing to help others in need & we are extremely family oriented. I love Arabic food (s/o to Maklooba), & our traditional Arab folk dance (debka). The culture is like no other & I am happy to be part of such a beautiful community. If I can offer any words of advice to the community, I would say to keep striving for more. Don’t settle. If you’re not happy with where you are in life, push yourself to the limits. Whether that is continuing your education, working out & striving for a healthier lifestyle, etc. Do not let anyone or anything keep you from improving yourself! “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing” - Walt Disney.
